Frequently Asked Questions

What is a Community Health Center?
Community Health Centers are local, non-profit, community-owned health care centers found across the nation. For nearly 40 years, the national network of health centers has provided high-quality, affordable primary care. They are located in areas where care is needed but scarce. Our Health Center offers integrated and coordinated primary, prenatal, dental and behavioral health care under one roof.

I have health insurance, why would I want to go to a Health Center?
Greater Prince William is your community health center–we offer health care to everyone in our community. You can choose your primary care physician, dentist and other provider, just as you would at any doctor’s office. The Health Center offers primary, prenatal, dental and behavioral health care for the whole family in one location. We have a range of qualified care providers and welcome most private insurance.

How do I know if I my income qualifies me to be a patient at the Health Center?
There are no income restrictions to receiving care at the Health Center. Depending on your family income and family size, you may qualify for discounts on our sliding fee scale. Our minimum office co-pay is $45 and lab requests are approximately $25. We accept most private insurance as well as Medicaid and Medicare.

Developing a relationship with my doctor is important to me, can I choose which health care provider I see?
Yes! We encourage you to be a full participant in your own health care. We have physicians, dentists, ob/gyn’s, certified nurse midwives, nurse practitioners, psychologists and other you can choose from for your care.

What if I am late for my appointment?
If a patient arrives 10 minutes after their scheduled appointment, the patient will not be seen.

I am new to the Health Center. Can I complete a registration packet before I arrive?

Yes, we have a registration packet on this website you can complete before you arrive for your first appointment. Click on “Services” and “New Patients”.

What is the Health Center’s cancellation policy?
All cancellations must be made at least 24 hours in advance. Patients that cancel without notice twice will be unable to schedule an appointment and may only be seen as a walk-in patient.

My family’s medications are expensive. Can Greater Prince William’s pharmacy provide any savings?
As our patient, you can qualify for certain prescriptions at significantly reduced rates. During your next visit, ask for information on this program’s enrollment process.

What if I need specialty care?
The Health Center has a strong relationship with local specialists in private practice and will refer you to specialists as necessary.

How do I make an appointment?
Patients needing to make an appointment to see one of our Board Certified Medical Doctors, Nurse Practitioners, Certified Nurse Midwife, Clinical Psychologist, Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Dentists, or Registered Nurses should call our Appointment Line at 703.680.7950. One of our Medical Schedules will gladly schedule you for a same day, next day, or next week appointment.

What other services does the Center provide its patients?
The Health Center provides hands-on assistance with obtaining free/reduced prescription medications and refills, Medicaid and FAMIS eligibility (we complete the paperwork so you don’t have to), and referrals to specialists around the state.

The Health Center advertises “integrated and coordinated health care under one roof.” What does this mean for me and my family?
We have the ability to treat the whole patient. Whether you need primary, dental, prenatal or behavioral health care services – or a combination of these services – we’ve got you covered. Our providers and staff collaborate to provide all of the health services you and your family need under one roof. Our team works hard to coordinate your care to improve your health, minimize the inconvenience of multiple providers and bills, and reduce your travel for health care.
