Center Hosts Open Enrollment Events; Get Guidance on ACA Insurance Options

pwhealth_burwell-lg-134During the Affordable Care Act (ACA) open enrollment period, Nov. 1 to Jan. 31, Greater Prince William Community Health Center will host a series of  marketplace enrollment events. Each features trained care coordinators who can walk consumers through the application process for ACA Marketplace insurance or Medicaid. The majority of the coordinators are bilingual, speaking English and Spanish.

The first event takes place Nov. 1, 12 noon to 4 p.m., at 9705 Liberia Avenue, Manassas, Va. Light fare will be provided. Additional events will be held as follows:

4379 Ridgewood Center Drive, Woodbridge 22192: Nov. 7, Dec. 5, Jan. 9 – 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

9725 Liberia Avenue, Manassas, 20110: Nov 21, Dec 12,  Jan 23 – 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

“For many area residents the Affordable Care Act offers their first introduction to health insurance, or to receiving coverage for preexisting conditions.” says Center Executive Director George Barker. “Sorting through various plans, income qualifications and possible tax credits can be daunting. Our care coordinators are trained to help people with the application process, finding the right solution for their unique situation.” He added that last year, the Center assisted 1,300 individuals in obtaining health coverage during open enrollment.

Reservations are encouraged; RSVP to 703.680.7950, extension 3311, or info@GPWHealthCenter.org. More information about the Greater Prince William Community Health Center is available at www.GPWHealthCenter.org/open-enrollment-events. Greater Prince William Community Health Center Opens New Medical Facility in Dumfries

Affordable OB/GYN Services Start at New Health Center This Week

CenteredPregnancy classes available at Dumfries location of Greater Prince William Community Health CenterWoodbridge, Virginia, Aug. 31, 2015 – Greater Prince William Community Health Center will open its third facility at 3 p.m. on September 2 at 17739 Main Street in Dumfries. By the end of the year, the Center will offer Primary Care, Dental, Behavioral Health and OB/GYN services. Until the full space is complete, the Center will only provide its OB/GYN services, including its popular CenteringPregnancy® program at the new facility. Patients can call 703-680-7950 or email info@GPWHealthCenter.org to schedule an appointment.

“We have only three exam rooms now, so we felt it best to introduce only one of our practices at this time,” said Executive Director George Barker. “We have seen a very large increase in prenatal patients this year, and Manassas Midwifery closed their Dumfries office. We can meet that need immediately while we ready the rest of the space. We encourage women needing prenatal care or other services to contact us now. Like our other centers, this will be a modern facility featuring the latest healthcare technologies and an integrated model that streamlines medical care for our patients.”

Currently, Dumfries has few medical offices, and there are a number of modest income families who could benefit from the Center’s sliding scale discount program, said Barker. He projects that the Center will provide 13,000 visits to 5,500 patients per year once fully operational. Most of these patients will likely be new to the Center, coming from the immediate area and North Stafford. “Most people living in North Stafford commute through Prince William, up I-95 or Route 1, to get to their jobs. It’s convenient for them to come here for medical care on their way to or from work,” said Barker.

The new facility is made possible by a New Access Points grant from the federal Health Resources and Services Administration. Greater Prince William Community Health Center was one of only two health centers in Virginia awarded such a grant in May. “It’s a testament to the quality of service that we provide to our patients,” said Barker. “As we grow and respond to community needs, we will pursue additional grants to ensure that all community members can receive the highest level of care regardless of their insurance coverage.”

In addition to accepting most insurance plans, including Medicare and Medicaid, the Center offers sliding scale payments for the uninsured and steep prescription discounts for all patients. More information on the Center’s services at its Woodbridge and Manassas facilities can be found at GPWHealthCenter.org.
