Burwell to Tour Evergreen Health Center, See Health Insurance Marketplace Enrollment in Action
Manassas, Virginia, November 14, 2014 – This Saturday, U.S. Health and Human Services Secretary Sylvia Mathews Burwell will be among the hundreds of visitors to the Greater Prince William Community Health Center’s second annual “Marketplace Party.” Taking place 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Evergreen Health Center, 9705 Liberia Avenue, Suite 201, Manassas, Va., the free event is open to the public and provides Health Insurance Marketplace open enrollment walk-in services, as well as flu shots, refreshments and tours of the recently opened center.
Secretary Burwell will tour the center and get a firsthand look at Marketplace enrollment in action starting at 11:45 a.m.
Bilingual (Spanish and English) Certified Application Counselors (CAC) are coming from across the Commonwealth to help individuals and families understand insurance eligibility requirements and to help first time and returning Marketplace customers enroll in the plan of their choice. With more plans available this year, returning customers may be able to find a better deal. CACs can also explain IRS non-enrollment tax penalties, monthly insurance plan premiums and available tax credits to help with the costs of coverage. Additionally, CACs will be enrolling and renewing eligible individuals and families in Medicaid. A list of required documentation needed for enrollment is available at www.GPWHealthCenter.org/getcovered.
“We are honored that Secretary Burwell will be our guest at Saturday’s ‘Marketplace Party,’ where she will see that the Affordable Care Act is alive and well in Prince William,” said Frank J. Principi, Executive Director of the Center. “We’ll have dozens of staff and volunteers at Evergreen working to ensure that more residents obtain the peace of mind that comes with health care coverage for their families.”
In addition to the Marketplace Party, the Health Center, a non-profit Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) with locations in Woodridge and Manassas, Va., will offer enrollment assistance by appointment throughout the open enrollment period, which runs Nov. 15, 2014 through Feb. 15, 2015. Last year, the Center assisted more than 7,000 individuals with health coverage during the first annual open enrollment period. The Center’s staff speaks English and Spanish.
